Final verdict
Between the nuanced audio and fully thought-out features of the Arctis Pro Wireless, this is SteelSeries’ best wireless gaming headset yet. Compared to other peripherals, it easily surpasses them, with some of the most powerful drivers and delightedly symphonic sound spaces we’ve wrapped around our ears.
However, $329 (about £240, AU$420) is a lot to spend on any gaming headset, especially considering the market of surround sound wireless options out there, including the $129 (£129, AU$199) Corsair Void Pro RGB and $199 (£159, AU$299) Logitech G933.
Even SteelSeries Arctis Pro seems like a better value at $249 (about £180, AU$320). Though its wired, the regular Arctis Pro features a digital-to-analog converter for better sound you won’t get on this wireless headset.
However, if you simply can’t do without a wireless headset and don’t want to sacrifice much in the way of sound quality, the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless is a perfect fit.

Design
If there’s anything I’ve come to appreciate about any headset, it’s a sturdy design; living with klutzy Old English Sheepdogs has made this an essential headset component. Previous iterations of the Arctis headsets have used aluminum and steel alloy frames.

The Arctis Nova Pro’s design instead opted for a premium PVD-coated steel band with aluminum ear cup covers that, in a month of testing, I learned very quickly were not only sturdy against every bump and accident but also scratch-resistant. One month into living with the headset, and I still have yet to see a scratch on these. That being said, they’re prone to collecting dust.
I do miss the folding hinge I’ve seen on noise-canceling headphones like my Anker Soundcore set, as well as a sturdy carrying case. SteelSeries improved the hinge design of the Arctis Pro and paired it with a soft cloth bag to protect the headset during travel or storing when not in use. I plane hop a lot to visit my family, who are scattered across the Midwest, and I wanted to be able to slim them down, especially when trying to maximize on carry-on space.
However, SteelSeries slimmed down the design of each ear cup, opting to maximize the space underneath the hood for a design that makes you feel comfortable taking these on the subway.

But my favorite part of the redesign is the comfortable elasticated suspension headband that rests just underneath the steel frame. Previous iterations of this design were meant for most head shapes and sizes, but not all. I don’t feel like I’m wearing the headset, and there is zero pressure on my ears that I’ve felt with other noise canceling headphones like the Bose QuietComfort 45 that have left me tepid about wearing them for lengthy periods. They also wear very comfortably with or sans my glasses.
The base station is a one-stop shop for all volume and audio adjustments, and more.

And, the wireless base station is a total gem, with an easy-to-see OLED interface and a button that allows you to shift through various settings, from wireless connectivity options to audio adjustments in bright white text. It’s small enough to be unobtrusive on your desk, though the base station does require a USB connection to your desktop or laptop.
Build Quality
At first glance, the Arctis Pro Wireless are very similar in design to the Arctis 9X we reviewed last month. This is not a bad thing; SteelSeries headphones have a sleek, understated look to them that, in a see of over-built and garish offerings, is a welcome corner in the market.
The Arctis Pro Wireless are light weight and comfortable, constructed form a mixture of metal, rubber, and plastic parts. Don’t mistake the use of plastic as them being cheaply constructed. This mixture of material keeps the Arctis Pro light weight and comfortable while providing support in places that it is needed the most. Rubber dots beneath the earphone yolks keep the cups from stretching too far out of their natural positioning, removing stress from that joint. The metal headband provides incredible support without being noisy like we have seen in other builds. This band softened by the partnership between silicon-like rubber padding and adjustable (and interchangeable) elastic “ski goggle” headband.
Moving down to the ear cups, these are some of the more comfortable ones that I have personally experienced in headphones. The cushions have a soft padding with a silky smooth fabric that is both breathable and comfortable. Even as a glasses-wearer, I have worn the Arctis Pro Wireless for extended periods of time without the fatigue that can come from headphones like these.
Alternatives to consider
If you want the wireless aspect but prefer a budget-friendly option, take a look a the HyperX Cloud Alpha. With a durable aluminum frame, the Cloud Alpha promises up to 300 hours of wireless gameplay. You’ll also get clear spatial audio quality using dual chamber audio drivers.
Another great option, the Logitech Pro X wireless gaming headset, uses dedicated Blue Vo!ce technology to capture your voice during gameplay. It lasts for over twenty hours on a single charge and works on both PC and PlayStation platforms.
Razer’s Kraken V3 Pro uses a hybrid mesh and leatherette padded system to keep your ears comfortable. The titanium 50mm drivers bring Razer’s signature THX spatial audio straight to your gaming. You can also expect up to 11 hours on a single charge with the haptics and lighting on, and up to 44 with them off.

Audio
The main reason I’ve never opted for the Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones is because I love to adjust my audio settings more than just noise cancelling. It’s hard for me to wear anything that doesn’t have an accompanying app that allows me to customize frequencies for whatever I’m listening to.
SteelSeries heeded my call for a top-notch audio adjustment system, but it’s a little complicated and involves several applications and steps, that some may not feel is worthwhile compared with other software like Anker’s touch-and-go software.
First, you’ll have to download the SteelSeries GG software on your desktop and navigate your way into the newly-released Sonar EQ app. From there, you can fine-tune every bass, treble, and mid sound frequency to your preference in part with a dedicated special parametric equalizer. It’s one hell of a cool feature, and it was even cooler when I learned that I could adjust not only the frequencies but also adjust how the sound projects.
The volume wheel was great for on-the-fly adjustments, but you’ll need Sonar to to fine tune the sound.

When I tested it with Florence + The Machine’s latest album, Dance Fever, I could shift any frequency to make every pluck of the band’s harp strings front and center in my listening. Similarly, when I finally watched Arcane and became obsessed with the soundtrack, I could build presets to maximize the hip-hop sound on «Dynasties and Dystopia.»
Customization aside, the Nova Pro really strives to build a 360-degree Spatial sound for gamers all over, working with major gaming companies. The resulting camaraderie, from software and firmware to collaborations with major gaming companies brings special pre-built settings into the headset for your favorite games including Destiny 2, Fortnite, and many more. It’s impressive to know how much work went into creating such specific technology — and the Nova Pro’s audio lives up to the hype for all the effort.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless – Software
Most gaming headsets come with software that lets you adjust some basic settings and download firmware updates, but the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless takes things to the next level. SteelSeries completely blew out its software options with the new Sonar portion of its GG application on Windows.
At its most basic level, you can tweak the volume of your game audio and chat independently instead of just tweaking the mix of audio between the two sources. This is an extremely rare feature found basically only on this gaming headset (and its predecessors), but it’s super helpful if you game with a regular set of friends and already have the chat volume dialed in for them. These are all settings you can easily access in the transmitter base too, so they’re accessible to console users, too.
The next level of customization is, of course, tweaking the equalizer, which is done via the SteelSeries GG app on Windows. Adjusting EQ is nothing new, but SteelSeries lays everything out by not only giving you a 4Hz to 40KHz frequency range to tweak, but also an easy-to-follow guide that explains what parts of the range translate to lows, mids, highs, and everything in between.
The equalizer tab also has a drop-down option that lets you create a custom EQ starting from a game preset, which also shows what part of the range translates to, say, footsteps in Halo Infinite or revives in Call of Duty: Warzone. The app comes with several pre-made EQ configurations for popular games like Apex Legends, GTA V, and League of Legends, to name a few.
SteelSeries also tells me it has plans to work with developers to master the way games sound on its headsets. Additionally, there are plans to introduce community-shared mixes, so I expect the list of EQ presets will only grow larger with more games in the future.
Tweaking the equalizer really does help elevate the sound and show how flexible the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless is. After switching on the preset for Halo Infinite, the soundtrack had noticeably more bass and gunfire echoed a bit further. Forza Horizon 5 also had louder engine grumbles and screechier tire squeals after turning on the premade EQ preset for it.
The one caveat to these EQ adjustments is that they currently only apply if you’re playing on PC, but SteelSeries says it’s looking for a way to port Sonar EQ adjustments to the headset so that they work on console as well. A mobile app is also under consideration.
Beyond changing the way games sound, you can also change the way you and your friends sound over chat. Sonar gives you a slightly less intensive equalizer than the game audio EQ to play with that spans across a narrower 31Hz (sub-bass) to the 16kHz (highs) range. Once again, you get presets to tweak the way you and chat sound for more clarity or more broadcast-quality audio.
There are also a few fun options that make you sound deeper or like you’re talking from a walkie-talkie. These options are a bit more gimmicky and not always effective, though, and I was told my voice didn’t seem any deeper or I sounded like I was talking from space when I tried them out with my friends.
Without any modulation, though, the mic quality captures your voice in excellent quality and with a warm and balanced tone. That said, the unidirectional microphone is a bit sensitive out of the box and it easily picks up unwanted background (like birds chirping and or cars driving by), so you’ll want to reduce the gain on it.

Однако, с лицевой стороны он очень маркий. Отпечатки пальцев остаются моментально, а стереть их не так-то просто. Ничего критичного, но что есть, то есть. SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless – Design and Features
This headset and its wired sibling, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro, features a new design that diverges quite a bit from the existing Arctis line, which until now hadn’t really changed since it debuted in 2017.
The first change you’ll notice is that where the older Arctis line featured a rigid metal headband with an elastic tension band to adjust fit, the headband now also features telescoping arms so it can accommodate larger heads. The older ones were great unless you, like me, have a larger head, in which case the tension band would press down even when set to its largest size. I don’t have to worry about that with the new design – I can even extend the arms fully to make the headset a few sizes larger than my head, which I find makes wearing it even more comfortable.
The elastic headband is also a bit different in that it connects to the metal headband with plastic snaps similar to the ones you find on an adjustable baseball cap. You can adjust the elastic band to rest tighter or looser to your head in three one-centimeter increments – though this means you can’t fine-tune it with quite as much precision as the old velcro design. But on the plus side, because the new model’s elastic band sits beneath the metal headband, it also won’t get dusty as quickly.
The earcups are also noticeably smaller and thinner compared to the large, oblong earcups of the older Arctis headsets. The new design’s stepped profile looks more stylish in my opinion – less like an earmuffs-looking gaming headset and more like a sophisticated pair of wireless headphones from the likes of JBL or Audio-Technica.
Beyond the updated styling, SteelSeries has improved on several of the onboard controls. The Nova Pro Wireless has large pill-shaped buttons that are well-spaced around the stepped design of the earcups, a nice improvement compared to the tiny M&M mini-sized power and Bluetooth buttons I’d have to feel around for on the old design.
Thankfully, the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless still features magnetic earcup covers to conceal the removable rechargeable battery on the right side – as well as a charging port, which has been moved to the left side. A minor quirk is that the removable circular covers use only two magnets to attach to the earcups, so it takes a bit more trial-and-error to correctly reattach them. Another quite literally grating thing about these circular covers is they feature a ring-shaped micro-etched finish that’s coarse enough to file your nails if you touch them the wrong way.
One of the old Arctis Pro Wireless’ standout features was its swappable battery system that let you charge one battery while the other is in use so that the headset doesn’t die on you when you need it most. The Nova Pro Wireless improves on that system by making the batteries hot-swappable; the headset packs capacitors large enough to keep it powered on for a short time, long enough for you to toss in the second battery. It’s not enough charge to power the drivers and keep your audio playing without interruption, but it’s nice to not have to turn the headset back on after a quick battery change.
The inside of the earcups has switched from cloth-based air weave cushions to more sound-isolating leatherette. Although the new material isn’t as breathable, I never found my ears getting sweaty, even after wearing them all day. The clamping force of the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless has also been increased slightly to make a better isolating seal, but it just feels snug instead of uncomfortable. I’ve easily worn this gaming headset for eight to 10 hours straight without discomfort.

А вот за амбушюры я могу только порадоваться. Они, как и полагается у отличных проводных гарнитур геймерского сословия, тряпичные, и не вельветовые или что-то вроде того, а честно-пористые. Снял, постирал в холодной воде, высушил — и вуаля, как новенькие!

Design
The Arctis Pro Wireless headset is nearly identical to the wired Arctis Pro + GameDAC, but equipped with a battery and Bluetooth controls, and lacking colored lighting. It’s understated and black, with slightly rubberized plastic earcups. Soft, breathable fabric-covered earpads easily fit over most ears, and a black anodized metal headband holds each earcup on a nearly quarter-circle arm that lets them fold flat and pivot slightly vertically. An elastic strap runs along the length of the headband, providing adjustable suspension that lifts the headset off of the scalp. This lets it fit comfortably over even large heads for fairly long periods of time. It’s much more understated than the anodized colored aluminum piping of the Astro Gaming A50, and we find the suspension on the headband a bit more comfortable to wear than standard headband padding.

The left earcup holds most of the headset’s controls and connectors along its edge. Starting on the back and working downward, there’s a microphone mute button, a clickable multi-purpose volume wheel, a connector for the included headset cable (the same one used by the wired Arctis Pro), a 3.5mm pass-through to let other users hear the audio going through the headset, a micro USB port for charging, and a boom mic that stays retracted inside the earcup when not in use. The right earcup features just two buttons, Power and Bluetooth, on the bottom edge, along with indicator lights for both. The back panel of each earcup is attached by magnets, and pulls off easily. The left earcup panel hides a geometric design and nothing of mechanical use, but the right earcup panel covers the battery compartment.

SteelSeries Arctis 9 Wireless и SteelSeries Arctis 7P
Выбор между этими гарнитурами довольно прост. Если у вас есть или планируется PlayStation 5, то однозначно 7P. Это очень универсальная гарнитура в плане подключения (подойдёт ко всему). Но, если PS5 нет, то особого смысла в 7P тоже нет. Объёмного звука на ПК не будет. В этом случае лучше приобрести Arctis 9. Их тоже можно подключить практически ко всему, но на ПК будет неплохой виртуальный объёмный звук.
Music Performance
The Arctis Pro Wireless handles music quite capably, with a sculpted sound that offers plenty of bass, typical for gaming headsets. At maximum and borderline unsafe volume levels, it reproduced the throbbing subwoofer-like bass drum in Run The Jewels’ «Legend Has It» with appreciable force and no distortion. The vocals on the track came through clearly against the sub-bass notes, as did the shaker backing the mix.
Yes’ «Roundabout» also sounded very good on the Arctis Pro Wireless. The guitar plucks in the opening had plenty of string texture, and the dense mix left enough room for the vocals and drums when things really kicked in. The electric slap bass didn’t sound particularly punchy, but it also didn’t overwhelm the rest of the track or muddy the hits of the high-hat.
